Library District #1 Doniphan County Fund

Specific Need

In the last six years, Library District #1 has made great progress in upgrading our facilities. Major projects included a new building in Wathena and a complete renovation of the Troy library. With four library buildings, we nearly always have goals and projects that are outside the scope of our normal budget, so donations are always appreciated.

Here are some of the projects on our horizon:

Elwood Library - Nearly 5,000 people came in to the very small Elwood Library last year. We need a new facility in a new location to make the library more accessible and visible in the community. Our goal is to find a space in a great location and provide updated technology, nice furniture, ample materials, and plenty of space for patrons to enjoy our services and programming.

Highland Library - In 2019, we're focusing on replacing the current flooring with new carpet and tile, and making the front door more handicap accessible for all of our patrons.

Wathena Library - It's time to replace the light fixtures, so we're putting in new LED lights that will brighten up the space. We're also getting kid-friendly shelving in our children's room.

Troy Library - Our newly renovated space is amazing, and we have kids flocking here after school and all summer long. That means we need a bike rack outside so that their bikes aren't a tripping hazard on the sidewalk by the front door.
